Death of Brian Conlon: It was with deep regret that we learnt of the death last week of Bernard (Brian) Conlon, Darogue, Ballymahon and native of Belfast. Brian, aged 80 yrs was a grand, quiet gentleman who originally came from Belfast where he ran a very successful pub until he moved down to Darogue, his wife Rose’s native homeland where they then built their new home many= years ago. Brian was a very religious man and always kept up to date with current affairs. Among the places he worked was Managing a Shopping Centre in Athlone and Brian also worked in the Longford Arms Hotel for a while. While he enjoyed good health, Brian liked to be out and about , he enjoyed socialising with his best friend, Tom McLoughlin who himself unfortunately also passed away just seven weeks before Brian. Every Saturday night, after the evening Mass , Brian and Tom went out for their few drinks together and enjoyed the chat and the banter. The respect with which he was held was very evident by the large number of people from all over the Country who called to his home and who attended Brian’s Funeral Mass in St. Matthews Church . His remains were laid to rest at Shrule Cemetery. We extend our deepest sympathy to Brian’s wife Rose, son Bernard, daughter Elaine, brother Noel, Sisters Brid and Eleanor, sisters-in-law, brother-in-law, son-in-law, daughter-in-law, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Ned was a grand, quiet man, a hard-working man all his life. He worked with the late Bill Dooley, his brother-in-law for a number of years, he loved his gardening and particularly loved dancing which he enjoyed until very recently. Ned loved coming into town every Friday on the bus, meeting all his friends. He was popular with everyone , he was a familiar sight around the place with his pipe and his cap, he never went anyplace without them. Ned will be dearly missed by his three daughters of whom he was so proud. The respect with which he was held by so many was evident by the large number of people who called to his home to pay their respects on hearing of his death, also at the removal of his remains to Tang Church and at the Funeral Mass on Sunday last. We extend our deepest sympathy to Ned’s daughters Helen, Geraldine and Ann, brother Tom, son-in-law John, also Aiden and Andy, niece Helen, nephew Seamus, grand-nephew Niall, sister-in-law Rita, relatives and many friends.
