MR PATRICK CAHILL: There was widespread regret with the news of the death following a brief illness of Mr Patrick (Paddy) Cahill Urney Ballinagh. Together with his wife Kathleen (nee Gaffney) the couple had for some time resided at Crossdoney Road Ballinagh prior to taking up residence at Urney.

Paddy as he was known to his countless friends can be rightly described as being one of nature’s gentlemen, kind and of a quiet nature,he was gentle and always hopeful to any person in need. A carpenter and builder by trade he was a master craftsman in his chosen career and he was a much sought after tradesman. Blessed with a deep religious faith Paddy was always anxious to assist his fellow man in every possible way and throughout life enjoyed a good sense of humour. His passing is widely mourned. To his beloved wife Kathleen , brother Frank sisters nephews nieces and a large family circle I extend the sympathy of our community. The funeral which was large and representative and a tribute to the esteem with which the deceased and his family are held throughout the region took place following the requiem Mass in St Josephs Church Drumkilly to the family burial ground in Drumavady cemetery. May his soul rest in peace.

MRS CLAIR SMITH: One of the districts most respected residents Mrs Clair Smith of Killy cannon has passed to her eternal reward and her passing has evoked widespread regret. A native of Crenard and a member of the highly respected Morgan family, Clair was a lady of the highest calibre who was held in the highest esteem by people from near and far. She was at all times of a very friendly nature, quiet and unassuming with a charitable nature and at all times anxious to assist her neighbour or anyone in need. A lady with a deep religious faith her kindness was widely known and her passing very much regretted. Predeceased by her husband Thomas (Tommie) and son Terry , she is survived by her son Michael daughters Mary and Clair, grandchildren nephews nieces brothers in law sisters in law and a large family circle to whom I convey the sympathy of our community. There was a very large attendance at the removal of the remains to St Felims Church Ballinagh while the funeral which again was of extremely large dimensions took place on Wednesday following requiem mass to the local cemetery. May her soul rest in peace.
