Student Enterprise Final: On Tuesday last the 5th of March the Student Enterprise County Final was held at the Longford Shopping Centre. Well done to our TY class and their Company “Crafty Creations” as the came in second place. There was a great range of companies on show on the day all of a very high standard. The whole TY class was involved in producing the quality wooden products and they were all shareholders in the company. The five managers, Eoin Corcoran, Peter Clyne, Callum o’ Brien, Mark Mulleady and Jack Kelly did a great job in running the company and in representing the company at the final, flying the flag for St Mel’s. The class would like to thank all those who supported them and purchased their products. Finally, best of luck to the students of Ballymahon Convent who represent Longford in the Student Enterprise Final in Croke Park.

The Gathering Short Film Competition: Well done to Transition Year students Callum o’Brien and Peter Clyne who made it to the North West Regional Final of the Gathering Short Film Competition. In total there were 29 entries from the region and the top 10 attended the final at the Clarion Hotel in Sligo on Wednesday night. The aim of the film was to showcase your county and remind people of what their county has to offer. This is to encourage people to visit their County as part of The Gathering 2013. On the night the lads had to introduce their film and explain the approach they took in producing it. Unfortunately they did not win but it is a fantastic achievement to get shortlisted to the final 10 and they should be proud of that. Well done lads! Also a word of thanks to Benny and Sheila from the bank of Ireland in Longford for their support.

Basketball: The first and second year basketball teams played Rathangan in the semi-final on Thursday last. Both teams put on a great performance but unfortunately were defeated. Thanks to Mick Murphy for all his hard work with the teams.
