ANNUAL AWARDS DAY

The annual awards day took place on Tuesday May 18th. This is the day that the staff recognises the achievements of our students in the social, academic and sporting fields.

One of the most prestigious awards that the school can bestow on one of its students is the Fr Manning Medal. Mr Cunningham awarded this to Mark Hughes.

Awards day was concluded with the announcement of nominations for the student of the year which will be aw arded on graduation night on Tuesday 25th May. The nominees were Eamon O'Ceallaigh, Aidan Ward, Tadhg Devlin, Ciaran Devine, and Ronan Lee.

Mr Gacquin, as usual did an excellent job of organising the ceremony.

MOCK TRIALS

Transition Years travelled to the criminal courts of Justice on Saturday May 15th with Ms Mulvihill to take part in the National Mock Trial. Led by barristers Kevin Finnan and Cian Flanagan, they did well, winning the jury's vote on each trial, but just failing to qualify for the final. Mr Frank Gearty came in to the school to help prepare the boys for the competition. His words of advice stood to them well on the day. The class would like to thank Mr Gearty most sincerely for giving his time most generously.

first YEAR TOUR

First Years travelled to Tanagh in Co Monaghan on Thursday 13th May with Mr Rowley and Mr Hynes for their school tour. Their adventure day was enjoyed by all.

TRANSITION TOUR to London

The TY class were in London from the 19th - 21st May. They had a fabulous time visiting all the famous attractions, catching a performance of Les Miserables and getting a tour of Wembley Stadium. Some even got a nice tan with the great weather they had over there. A big thank you to Ms. Noone and Mr. Gargan for accompanying them on their final trip.

ATHLETICS

A group of Athletes were in Athlone IT on Wednesday 19th with Mr O'Connell to try and qualify for the All Ireland Finals. Well done to Robert Yorke who qualified for the intermediate 800m and to DJ Sokunbi who qualified for the for the long jump and the senior 100m sprint. Best of luck to Robert and DJ in the All Ireland Finals on Saturday 5th June in Tullamore.

U14 GAA

On Friday 14th our U14 team played their final match of the year. Unfortunately they were beaten by Cnoc Mhuire Granard in the Longford School's Final. Final score was 7:11 to 2:10.

SOCCER

On Monday 17th May U14 soccer were beaten in the Leinster semi final by St Mary's, Drogheda.

EXAMS

Fourth Year exams will take place from Wednesday 26th to Friday 28th May. First and Second Year will be on from Wednesday 2nd – Friday 4th June.

GRADUATION NIGHT

Leaving Certificate Graduation Mass took place on Tuesday 25th. TY graduation on the 27th May.
