Ballymahon/Forgney Community Games

AGM: Our AGM was held recently in Ballymahon GAA Clubhouse on Wednesday 28th November. Paul Fox Chairperson welcomed everyone to the meeting and thanked our small but hardworking and enthusiastic committee for all their hard work and commitment throughout the past year. Secretary Shirley Maloney stated it had been another successful and busy year for Ballymahon/Forgney Community Games with many new events having been introduced to the area including U14/U16 skittles, U16 boys pitch and putt and U13 girls futsal. There were many team and individual successes for the area at County and Leinster competitions including U11 tag rugby and U15 boys indoor soccer teams reaching the Leinster Finals, U16 skittles reaching Leinster semi finals and U12,u14 & u16 girls Modelmaking winning gold & 4th medals at the National community games finals. Ballymahon/Forgney also won for the 2nd year in a row the County Longford Area Award for participation in community games events and members of the committee went on to represent and collect an award at the National Community Games Area Awards in Ballinasloe at the end of November. She thanked all the children who participated in community games and the many parents, coaches, managers and volunteers who helped out throughout the year also Ballymahon GAA, Convent Secondary School, Ballymahon Voc School, Dean Egan Library, St Matthews N.S, Leinster Rugby Coach Steve Coy, Tom Brady Skittles Ireland, David Hoysted and Midland Trophies. She also thanked our hard working committee for all their support and help over the past three years.

TAG RUGBY: Names are now being taken for U11 and U14 girls and boys mixed tag rugby. Tag Rugby is a non contact sport. Training will commence in January and permission slips have been given out to all the local schools and must be filled in and signed if you wish your child to take part.
DRAUGHTS: Our U10 and U12 draughts teams recently took part in the county competitions. The U12 team won their first match against Carrickedmond but unfortunately lost their second match to a much stronger Clonguish team. Our young U10 team got a bye in the first round and played against Killoe in the second round but unfortunately lost their game. Well done to both teams and many thanks to their coaches and managers Ciara Molloy and Valerie Byrne.
U10 team: Charlie Byrne, Eddie Byrne, Cian Molloy,Giselle Siebelink, Eimear McDonagh.
U12 team: Cillian McKeown, Richard Sweetnam, Aoibhe Molloy, Aisling Duncan, Max Naperalski.
ART & MODELMAKING: The Art and Modelmaking competitions recently took place in Ballymahon GAA Clubhouse on Friday 30th November and Sat 1st December. Results of these competitions will be printed in next week’s Longford Leader.
