The draw for the first round of the Cleaning Contractors Provincial Towns Cup took place in the Aviva Stadium on Saturday before the Leinster v Clermont Auvergne Heineken Cup game.

Longford, last year’s runners-up in the Provincial Towns Plate, drew an away fixture against Division 2B side North Kildare who are located between Kilcock and Maynooth. North Kildare were a regular foe for Longford in the last decade, although Longford’s promotion coupled with North Kildare’s relegation in recent years, has meant that the sides have not met in the last three seasons. Previous meetings in the Provincial Towns Cup between the sides have fallen evenly with a 50-50 record. Division 1B Longford will undoubtedly be favourites going into the match. However, Colm Glynn’s men will certainly give this cup fixture the respect it deserves, as if they bring anything but their A game to North Kildare, a potential banana skin awaits. The first round will take place on Sunday January 27th with a 2.30pm kick-off. Longford 2nd XV play in the Anderson Cup this year, with the draw being made at a later date.
