Longford have reached the final of the Towns Cup for the first time in 81 years after they beat Roscrea in a hotly-contested semi-final encounter at the rugby grounds in Edenderry.

Leading 12-6 at half-time, Longford scored the only try of the game early in the second half, but then had to dig in as Roscrea attempted to stage a comeback.

The final will be an All-Midlands encounter, after Tullamore recorded a 24-15 victory over Tullow in Athy. While Tullamore will be bidding for their fifth title, Longford will be hoping to make history by lifting the trophy for the first time.

Sunday, April 21 is the date pencilled-in for the final, but this could be moved to April 28 if Tullamore finish second in the AIL Round Robin. The venue will be announced later this week.
