Room to improve with free recycling initiative

A number of local stores across the county have come on board WEEE Ireland’s recycle for free initiative, which kicks off this week.

RTE’s Room to Improve presenter, Dermot Bannon was on hand recently with the renovation dream team WEEE Ireland and the Irish Hardware and Building Materials Association (IHBMA).

Together they are encouraging all budding Longford DIY enthusiasts to recycle their electrical power tools for free this year, when undergoing new refurbishments in the home.

Mr Bannon officially announced both WEEE Ireland’s renewed sponsorship of the popular RTE series and its partnership with the IHBMA to encourage local hardware retailers in Longford to become a centre for WEEE recycling in the community.

Locally, recycling can be availed off for free at Diffley & Sons, Ballymahon; Donoghue’s Hardware, Granard; Fergus Hanley Ltd, Lanesboro; Quinn’s Supply Stores Ltd, Edgeworthstown; and at Sealtec Ltd, Athlone Road, Longford.

“I’m delighted to see WEEE Ireland back on board this year; I know more than most how important it is to recycle the old to make way for the new during any renovation project,” Mr Bannon explained. “Your local hardware retailer should be the first port of call for any DIY wannabe when starting a new project, so make use of the one in your community and support your local store.”

The new series of RTE’s Room to Improve will begin in October 14 next and WEEE Ireland said that it was looking forward to the partnership with IHBMA in respect of the programme. “WEEE Ireland are delighted to announce both of these partnerships and our sponsorship of Room to Improve,” Conor Leonard, Collections and Projects Manager, WEEE Ireland, said. “The hardware store in any town is a pivotal part of the community and we want everyone to get in to their local store and remember, please bring back your batteries, light bulbs, and electrical goods where they will be recycled for free.” For more information on what qualifies as WEEE and where to recycle for free log onto www.recycleforfree.ie
