Dring open air festival

The Colmcille branch of the Mentally Handicapped Association will hold the 40th annual Open Air Festival on June 1st 2014 at Dring car park. All proceeds will go directly to St Christophers Centre, Barttery Road, Longford.

Congratulations

Congratulations to Corn Mill Theatre group and especially to local playwright, Kevin McGahern, Loch Gowna on winning the coveted title of best play at the RTE all Ireland drama festival in Athlone for their play the Devil’s Ceili. Also congrats to Philip Doherty.

Tidy Towns

Loch Gowna Tidy Towns committee appeal to all householders and businesses in the village and surrounding area to maintain their property to high standard for the duration of the Tidy Towns adjudication period which will commence on the first week of June. With your continued effort we would hope to achieve first place in 2014. The committee would like to extend thanks to those who contributed and supported this competition in previous years.

Death

Death of Mrs Margaret Mathieson (nee Madden). It was with deep regret that we learned of the death of Margaret Mathieson, Aughavains, Loch Gowna and formerly of (Glasgow) on Tuesday, 13th May, peacefully at Portiuncula Nursing Home, Multyfarnham, Co Westmeath. Predeceased by her husband, George, Margaret was an extremely kind and friendly lady, when in good health she always attended events in the social club. She will be sadly missed by her sister Kate, brother James, nephews, nieces, brothers in law John and extended family to whom we extend our deepest sympathy. Her remains were removed from her residence on Wednesday evening to the church of Holy Family, Loch Gowna and following requiem Mass on Thursday morning at 11am, burial took place in adjoining cemetery. May she rest in peace.
