The 10th annual Gallant 15km Challenge in aid of St Christopher’s Hospice Cavan takes place Saturday 26 October 2013. The main sponsor is MacManus Pharmacies Cavan. People can walk, run or cycle the 15km from Cavan to Cornafean or choose the smaller course of Ballinagh to Cornafean. Over the previous nine years the Challenge has been an outstanding success raising 262,000 euro for this wonderful cause. Fiona and Johnny Macken are holding a fundraising night in the Boomerang on Saturday 28 September in association with the Breffni Challenge to raise much-needed funds for St. Luke’s Hospital, Cavan Oncology Unit and Breast Cancer Research. This is a follow up to the cycle that both Fiona and Johnny participated in August. They will donate all proceedings from the night and the cycle to the Breffni Challenge 2013. The Ordination of Fr. Francis Duffy as Bishop of Ardagh and Clonmacnoise takes place on Sunday 6 October in St. Mary’s Church, Athlone at 3p.m. Abbeylara has been allocated 4 tickets.
