This first compact edition of the Leader marks a new chapter in this newspaper’s history. The composition of the newspaper has been transformed to reflect the changing times in which we live. As part of this exciting project, a new-look website will be launched in the coming months and this will build on the continued success of longfordleader.ie , bringing our digital news production to a new level.
As technology has evolved, the way in which we deliver the news has changed. We no longer see ourselves as a weekly title, we are a daily newsroom producing top quality local news for Longford and the surrounding counties. Stories will be broken online but they will be followed up and analysed in a bright new format, a comprehensive compact newspaper.
Irish people have a great thirst for news and they want to know what is happening in the world around them. In that regard, local newspapers come into their own. The local events, the individual achievements, the festivals, the community meetings, the council meetings where crucial decisions are taken that affect your daily lives. The local news, as it happens.
That is the starting point for a local newspaper, everything else is built on that premise. So the format may have changed, but the core principals have not.
Whether they are talking about it over ditches in north Longford, sitting by the Shannon in Lanesboro, walking the roads of Killoe or outside Mass in Granard the Leader has been reporting on it , without fear or favour. That will continue.
Every week, we strive to create a newspaper you can be proud of; a paper that truly deserves the title “The Longford Leader” .
