Well done Jack!
Any day one gets the opportunity to live life is a good day, and especially when one achieves something wonderful. That day for a particular young man was the day the Leaving Cert results came out. That young man was Jack Williamson who received 615 points securing him a place on the Law and French degree course in Trinity College, Dublin. He was a student at Moyne Community School for the past five years and he received his primary education in St Mary’s National School, Arva, Co Cavan. Jack attributed his good results from studying subjects he liked and he would recommend this as a good tip for anyone, and having the support of a dedicated teaching staff also helped. He has wonderful praise for his mam and dad as they were instrumental in introducing him to many various aspects of the arts, culture and heritage, thus broadening his outlook on life and instilling in Jack a love of learning. Jack is a member of Leitrim Youth Theatre Company Carrigallen where he has performed many times on stage in the Corn Mill Theatre and wrote and directed a play “Liberation of a Rose” for the Company two years ago. He is a regular visitor to Charley Farrelly’s Folk Club which is held the first Friday of each month. There he can be seen displaying his piano skills, tutored by Mairéad Whelan Cousins, and tin whistle, flute, accordion by Maebh Rehill and The Finnegan School of Music, Carrigallen. His mother Maura is well known drama-therapist, drama facilitator and playwright. Jim, his father is also well known in the drama circles, having performed with the Corn Mill Theatre Group and Beezneez Theatre Company; and is a renowned director; and pharmacist in the local chemist in Carrigallen. Jack was a member of the school’s debating team following in the footsteps of his late maternal grandfather Benny Reilly, Drumanure, Carrigallen who had a great passion for politics and loved a good debating session with his neighbours and friends. Jack shared his joy with his sister, Lauren Greene who is a student in Carrigallen Vocational School. Well done Jack and wishing you every success as you embark on the long road of life ahead of you!
Congratulations to all student from the parish who received their results and in particular those from Carrigallen Vocational School, where excellent results were achieved. Grades achieved were well above the national average in nearly all the subjects, and in particular the level of distinctions in the L.C.V.P. Were over three times the national average. The excellent results achieved were a combination of the work of the dedicated staff and the hard work put in by the students and support of their parents. Wishing them all well in their future education and endeavours.

For online information check out www.thegatheringireland.com This is a fun, creative and exciting project called Gathering Stitches and we want all of you the readers to be part of it. The idea is to make a quirky patchwork quilt, but it will made with your patchwork squares using memories or stories of what Ireland, Leitrim, or Carrigallen means to you! We are not looking for perfection so anybody can do it. The only limitation is the square, finished size has to be 12” by 12” with a plain border for us to join to the main quilt. You can start today...as many already have. Many interesting squares have arrived from faraway places such as Dubai, America, Canada, Thailand and also closer to home.
Keep the patchwork squares coming! Pass this on to your relatives around the world and we look forward to hearing from them or alternatively they can visit Carrigallen, Co Leitrim on Tuesday 24 September 2013 from 2:00pm to 8:00pm, and meet the contributors to the quilt, stories will be recorded on the evening, local craft displays, music, drama performance (must see!) films and refreshments. The Quare Land
Moth Productions present The Quare Land by John McManus, directed by and starring Seamus O’Rourke with Shane Carroll on Thursday 29 August 2013 in Drumreilly Community Centre at 8:30pm. The last thing ninety year old bachelor farmer Hugh Pugh expects, as he takes his first bath in four years, is a visitor. But here he is Rob McNulty, a stressed out developer looking to buy one of Hugh’s fields to extend his golf course. A field that Hugh never even knew he owned. A field in Leitrim, of all places! A straightforward enough transaction then, one would imagine, but the cantankerous old Pugh has so many stories to tell, and now he has a captive audience.
