National Learning Network Longford
National Learning Network (N.L.N.)is the training and employment division of the Rehab Group of Companies an internationally recognised leader in the provision of high quality, accredited training and specialist supports to persons with disabilities and others distant from the labour market.
In partnership with our major funders FAS and HSE we currently offer five accredited Vocational and Rehabilitative training programmes from our main training Centre at Grafton Court in Longford Town and from our Horticulture Training facility on the grounds of the Manor in Edgeworthstown.
On average National Learning Network (N.L.N.) in Longford provides training and employment support services to approximately 65 persons each year. Nine out of every ten people who complete our courses progress to employment or further education.
The Centre is a registered FETAC and ECDL Centre offering Major Awards on FAS funded courses at FETAC Level 3 and FETAC Level 4. In addition N.L.N recently achieved the FAS Excellence Through People Award at Gold Level a result that places it in the top 10% of companies in Ireland who have achieved this award to date. In addition we also have received the prestigious E.Q.U.A.S.S. award a European recognition of excellence in Social Care Provision.
At a time of economic difficulty everyone is finding it more difficult to enter or re-enter the workforce. N.L.N. staff in Longford and nationally have a wealth of knowledge and experience in supporting people who might find it difficult to gain employment or to develop the skills to move forward with careers. In addition to the high quality training provided our team of Instructors and support staff NLN has forged excellent links with the commercial and business life of Longford. In working in a highly valued partnership on a weekly basis with up to 30 employers acting as Host companies for work experience placements NLN staff are in close touch with the employment opportunities arising in the local labour market. On average over the past three years 15 to 20 participants from our courses are placed to employment each year in the County across a wide range of business sectors.
Programmes on offer include Horticulture, Catering Support both of which carry FETAC level 4 Certification in each sector. In addition our Employer Based Training Programme (EBT) and Fresh Start carry FETAC Level 4 also in Employment Skills. The Employability Skills award at level 3 is also available on Fresh Start and on the HSE funded “Turas” Rehabilitative Training Programme. All our programmes carry additional supports (on a needs basis) encompassing Resource Teaching, Work Related Social Skills, Rehabilitation and Psychological supports and interventions.
Programmes are open to suitable persons over 16 years of age referred and approved by either HSE Occupational Guidance or Department of Social Protection Employment Services as appropriate. Typically such referrals will be persons in receipt of disability payments or others with health related or educational challenges eligible for or in receipt of other DSP payments. There are no fees for the courses and training allowances are paid in most cases. DSP payments are generally retained or matched depending on D.S.P benefit type.
Potential learners entering the NLN Centre can expect a welcoming and supportive training and learning environment with individualised planning and progress reviews throughout the selected courses. In addition learners will shortly have access to the new NLN E-Learning facility and enhanced I.T. software and infrastructure.
