Mixed move for Jillian

Longford’s Jillian McNulty is one of the main Cystic Fibrosis (CF) campaigners who have been credited with the successful opening of the new CF facility at St. Vincent’s University Hospital, Dublin. Other campaigners credited by Philip Watt (Cystic Fibrosis Association Ireland) were Anita Slowey (RIP), and Orla Tinsley.
Speaking to the Leader Jillian felt mixed emotions at her recent move into the new €22 million unit.
“It’s very emotional. I’m thinking of all those people who have died over the last 20 to 30 years. They didn’t make it to see this,” she said, speaking to the Leader.
She added: “I’m particularly remembering Anita Slowey (24, Monaghan). She was a fellow campaigner for the unit who died a year and a half a go.
“I also remember Keely Flavin (15) who died just last week. She was so afraid when she was transferred over and she didn’t make it either.”
The facility, which has 34 inpatient rooms, forms part of the new ‘Nutley’ wing at the hospital. It will also consist of ensuite facilities, an exercise facility, a computer console and TV, and a further 10 CF day-care rooms.
