Milestone reunion for Oliver Plunkett’s Vocational School

The Leaving Cert class of 1993 from St. Oliver Plunkett’s Vocational School – Templemichael College as it is now known – will gather to re-live memories of 20 years ago this Friday night (March 8) in Edward J Valentine’s bar, Main Street.

Speaking to the Leader this week, organiser Mary Gorman said marking the milestone “just felt like the right thing to do”.

Through the school’s administration office, she was able to send out a letter to each home address of the class and the past teachers and the response has been encouraging.

Social media has also helped to get what’s expected to be a decent attendance for next Friday night.

“We sent out a letter to everyone through the school to the home address that they had back then.

“We also set up a Facebook page and we have had a great response. A lot of people have heard through word of mouth, because not everyone is on Facebook,” she said.

While most are coming from counties around Ireland, Derek Naughton is probably making the longest trip, returning from the Lebanon where he has been on peacekeeping duties with the UN.

Others who have emigrated to Australia, the US and Canada won’t be able to make it, but have sent their best wishes for the night.

Valentine’s is where all those who can make it will meet for their trip down memory lane.

“Eddie (Valentine) has kindly offered to have finger food there on the night and he is putting on live music,” said Mary, who said they will congregate at the rear of the popular town venue. The night kicks off at 9pm.

The Facebook page for the event is “Longford Tech Class of 1993”.
