Gaisce Trip

A large group of TYs took part in the adventure trip as part of the Bronze Gaisce Presidents award. They set off from school walking on Tuesday May 18th and four hours later they reached Barley Harbour on Lough Ree. They then canoed and kayaked across to Quaker Island. When they arrived they set up camp, even in the wet conditions! The next morning they had to pack up and kayak back to the Harbour. It is fair to say everybody was wreaked from the trip but a sense of achievement was felt by all.

TY Activities

TYs had their final activity session last Thursday. A huge thanks to Margaret Larkin who spoke to the TYs about mental health. She touched on every topic and helped all TYs who entered her class. Alex Stanley of Outdoor Discovery kept the TYs entertained as he did various activities throughout the year. The students experienced archery, kayaking, tubing, and other outdoor skills which came in useful on the recent Gaisce Trip. Lastly Sean Donohue who taught all students self-defence and helped prepare them for an event where the skills may help them, hoping they won't have to use them though! A huge thanks to Mrs. Bohan who made sure these activities were arranged every Thursday.

Cnoc na R

TYs went to County Sligo to climb the very famous Cnoc na R last Friday. This was the very last outing of the Transition Years and a good day was had by all.

T.Y Graduation Night

The school is now quieter as the TYs celebrated their Graduation night on Tuesday the 25th May. All parents were invited to the presentation to see all that has been done during the year. Everybody had a fantastic year and this is the year we will never forget. Thanks to our TY co-ordinator Mrs. Bohan who worked very hard to make sure the year was a success.

Leaving Certs

On Wednesday all 6th years will have a very emotional day because this will be their last day of school after 5/6 years within the halls of Mercy Ballymahon. They will have a barbecue and activities, what a way to spend their final day! On Thursday they will hold their Graduation Mass in which family members and school staff will attend. We want to wish them all the very best of luck with their exams and in the future! They will all be deeply missed.

Summer Tests

You know summer is here when you see the exam timetable pinned up on the notice board. All 1st, 2nd and 5th years will start exams on Thursday May 27th and we wish them all luck and hope all will have a brilliant summer.

Congratulations

Well done to the TY Fencing team of Patricia McGrath, Laura Reynolds, Fiona Belton and Lydia Yorke who won the National Schools Fencing competition (this competition was not about putting down poles and wire in a field!). Thanks to coach Kevin Dunne who taught TYs fencing faithfully every Monday during the year.
