Longford man takes on Austrian challenge

David Sheridan (26), a native of Shroid, Longford, is preparing to take part in the 2012 Ironman Austria on July 1 next. The youngest son of John and Catherine, he was awarded an honours degree in Sports Management from University College Dublin (UCD).

David Sheridan (26), a native of Shroid, Longford, is preparing to take part in the 2012 Ironman Austria on July 1 next. The youngest son of John and Catherine, he was awarded an honours degree in Sports Management from University College Dublin (UCD).

David was a member of the Longford Swimming Club and for years competed on a national level. He still holds the Connaught record for 200m IM. David, together with Barry Hall, set up the Longford Triathlon Club that currently has 80 members.

The avid athlete recently took part in the Tri-Athy alongside Jenson Button. He was placed seventh in his age group out of 600 participants. David also won the recent Triathlon in Portrunny, County Roscommon, and is the Assistant Manager in the Longford Sports Centre.

David will compete in Ironman Austria which consists of a 3.8km swim / 180km cycle and 42.1 km run. Ciara and Matthew, Sheridan family, Carr family, McGeeney family, Longford Tri Club and all the staff at Longford Sports Centre wish the Longford man every success.
