Little Athletics: Little Athletics recommences on Friday 11th January at 7pm in the Mall Sports Complex. Little Athletics is a programme designed to address the specific physical requirements of children in the 6 - 10 year old age bracket. It focuses on introducing the fundamentals of athletic movement to children in a fun, exciting and non-competitive environment. This age group has been identified as the FUNdamental stage in the long term physical development of the child, and the development of fundamental skills such as agility, co-ordination and balance will contribute greatly to future sporting achievements.

Little Athletics centres on the use of games to provide fun while developing fitness. Props such as hurdles, obstacles, medicine balls, foam javelins and hula-hoops will be used to encourage tumbling, running, throwing, hopping and jumping.

Juvenile Training: All parents will be contacted in the next week regarding the start up of Juvenile Training. More details next week. First up will be the North Connaught Post Primary Schools Cross Country Championships which are scheduled for late January in Calry. The Connaught Indoor Track and Field Championships are scheduled for early March. It is important that all Juveniles attend training on a regular basis as the competition at regional level is of a very high standard.

Club AGM: It’s that time of year again. Longford Athletic Club will hold its Annual General Meeting at the end of January. This is a critical meeting as it reviews the club progress in 2012 and plans for 2013. Further details will be published within the next couple of weeks.

Registration: All club athletes need to fill out their registration forms and pay their annual subscriptions for 2013. These forms will be available at the club training sessions in the New Year or from any club coach. The annual subscription covers insurance with Athletics Ireland which covers club training and at all competitions/championships held under Athletics Ireland including County, Regional and National Championships.
