Cork native James Lucey won the Midland Motor Club Autocross recently.

The weather was key to the success of this weekend event - with 24 competitors on the Saturday and a bigger entry of 37 on the Sunday.

Lucey won easily on Saturday by 3 seconds but on Sunday he’d merely 0.1 of a second to spare over Jimmy Whyte and 3rd was Brian McHale, all in specials.

Seventeen club members took part. Longford man Nigel McCloughery was closest to the top of the field in a special and he finished 8th overall on Saturday with Colin Duffy in his Subaru finishing 9th overall.

Ger Brennan was the first saloon car home on the Saturday in his cosworth powered mark 1 fiesta and JJ Callanan took him on the Sunday and came out on top by 2 seconds. The next club member home was Aidan Prior, winning in class 3A both days.

Nigel McCloughery took 15th overall on Sunday. Cillian Lenehan in the junior class 5A, finished 13th and 16th overall on Saturday & Sunday, respectively, and was 2nd in class 5A both days behind Jack Kelly.

Patrick Brides (Class 2A), Stephen Faughnan, Finbar Halligan and Aidan Prior (Class 3A) went well both days as did Tommy Donlon, John Kelly, Damien Kellegher, Darragh Kelly and Ronan Corr in Class 5B. Lanesboro girl Niamh Scally and Amy Faughan also impressed. Others who excelled were Rory Collins, Anthony Dolan, Sean Wallace and Mick McCormack. Clerk of Course Gerry Kelly thanked Tom Raftery for providing the field this year and all the marshals. See www.midlandmotorclub.com for more
