Longford ex-pats in New York describe how Hurricane Sandy has affected them. Norah Egan, originally from Kenagh, has been left homeless after floodwaters engulfed her house and swept away her car.

The Revenue Commissioners are set to approach around 5,000 homeowners in County Longford who have yet to pay the Government’s household charge.

Town councillors hope to secure up to half of the county’s 18 local authority seats at the next election in 2014, after Environment Minister Phil Hogan announced that town councils are to be abolished.

In sport, Emmet Og are set to face Navan O’Mahony’s in the Leinster Championship, while Longford Slashers have claimed their first minor hurling title in over a decade.
