On Friday evening there was a serious house fire in a vacant house on St Michael's Road. The fire began at around 5pm and the gardai and the Longford Fire Services rushed to the scene.
The house was left in a burnt out state with glass being shattered from all of its windows and serious smoke damage to its interior by the time the fire was extinguished.
The gardai technically examined the scene and it is thought that it was started intentionally.
On Saturday evening, October 31 the gardai received a report of a parked car on fire at Templemichael Terrace.
When they arrived on the scene they discovered that a firework had been thrown by a youth and had landed underneath the car's engine.
The firework then set the car on fire and the car was burnt out. The gardai are following a definite line of inquiry in relation to this incident.
A-17-year old youth was arrested in Longford town on Saturday night for two separate criminal incidents.
The youth was allegedly seen throwing a rock through a window of Clarke's Bar in Lanesboro at approximately 9.30pm.
No-one was hurt during the incident. A few hours later the youth was arrested for allegedly causing a public order incident at St Joseph's Hospital on the Dublin Road in Longford.
On Sunday evening last three men wearing hooded tops attempted to rob McDonalds in the N4 Axis Centre.
At 9.40pm the culprits entered the fast food outlet and one reached behind the counter and grabbed the cash register.
On discovering that there was no cash in the register the man threw it back over the counter frightening the staff working there.
The men then fled the scene. Nothing was taken during the raid but two men were being questioned by the Longford Gardai on Monday afternoon last in relation to the incident.
There were also two burglaries in the early hours of Monday morning last.
A house in Pearse Drive was entered by a burglar between 4am and 12 midday of Monday morning.
The intruder entered via a front window but was disturbed by the home owner and fled the scene through a rear door of the house. A small amount of cash was taken during the break in.
The second incident happened in Lisbrack Downs between 2.30am and 11am on Monday. The owner of the house awoke to discover that their front door was wide open and that a plasma TV, a Siemens laptop, a Nokia phone and a set of car keys had been stolen from the house.
Entry was gained to the house through a back window. The gardai are now asking the public for assistance on this matter.
There were also several criminal incidents in and around Longford town last week. On Tuesday, October 27 a man broke into B3 Cable Solutions in Farneyhoogan at around 8.20pm.
Nothing was taken during the incident but gardai discovered a glove and a piece of a jacket which has since provided them with a finger print sample.
Several cars were also set on fire in an act of vandalism on Monday, October 26 last at Sean O'Hara's garage on Richmond Street.
The incident happened between the hours of 9.45pm and 10pm. Two cars were damaged beyond repair as well as several vehicles that were being stripped for parts.
A 15-year-old was later arrested and admitted the offences. A fire was also deliberately set in the yard of O'Reilly's Furniture on Richmond Street on Thursday, October 29 at 9.50pm. A suspect has been questioned in relation to this incident.
