Longford Bible Alive

In a new series of Bible talks starting on Tuesday Sept 15 at 8pm in the Family Centre, Longford, Graeme Wylie will explore the ways God has revealed himself in the Old Testament.

We sometimes have the mistaken stereotype of the God of the Old Testament being harsh and judgmental compared with the God of the New Testament whom we see as being full of love and grace.

In fact God revealed himself to Israel in the Old Testament as a loving, caring, tender God and it is this same God today who continues to connect with needy, hurting and lost people in order to shower his love and kindness on them.

If you would like to get to know God better according to how He reveals himself in the Scriptures, this series of talks will be a great help in your journey of discovery.

Co Longford Choir

Rehearsals resume after the holidays next Wednesday Sept 9 in the Choir Room at St. Mel's Cathedral at 7.45 pm.sharp. Please bring along the Vivaldi Gloria and the Christmas music folder/s, so that the new term can get off to a flying start - "tosach maith leath na h-oibre". Antonio Vivaldi was known as the "red priest"because of his red beard. Born in Venice circa 1675 he is credited with an enormous output of music - 450 concertos, ( "The Four Seasons" is among the best known) 40 operas, staged not only in Venice but also in Rome, Florence,

Verona etc.which he produced himself , engaging the singers and dancers himself, paying the bills and keeping a sharp eye on the box office!

One story about Vivaldi tells how he was suspended from his priestly duties by the Inquisition because, while celebrating Mass one day, he had rushed off the altar to write down a musical idea before it escaped him.

In later life he left the priesthood because of illness. Sadly, he died in poor circumstances in Vienna in 1741.
