A big thank you to all the people who donated to the bag packing fund raising which took place in Tesco, Longford on the 15th and 16th of February. The pack could not have taken place without the help of the second level and PLC students of Templemichael College; the VTOS students, Battery Rd; the teachers and other volunteers from Clondra and elsewhere who gave generously of their time. Thank you to Tesco for facilitating us and also to the shops in the centre and elsewhere who gave generously for a draw for the students, your help is greatly appreciated.

Pieta House is suicide crisis/self harm crisis centre. It provides a counselling service for people from all over Ireland free of charge. People from Longford have availed of their services. You don’t need a referral from a GP or have a psychiatric report; you can ring up 01 6010000 or 01 6200020 and make an appointment for yourself. Waiting time is rarely more than a week, but there is no waiting time for people who are actively suicidal. The therapist helps the person come through their crisis and exchange their negative feelings for positive hopeful, emotions. A support therapist is also available for families. You can find out more by visiting www.pieta.ie.

Among the testimonials “Thank you all very much for your support at a very vulnerable time in my life” given by a young man aged 25 who had suicidal thoughts.

Pieta House is a non-profit organisation, getting a small proportion of its funding from the government but relies on fundraising and voluntary donations for most of its funding.
