Speedy payers to be rewarded: Hughes

Motorists who pay parking fines within an agreed amount of time should be awarded concessions, a recent council meeting has heard.

Cllr Denis Hughes said discounts were an ideal way of rewarding those drivers that provide prompt payment up front.

He said a e10 reduction for fees paid within a 48 hour period was an ideal way of achieving this.

Cllr Paul Connell agreed, pointing out how the measure would allow greater breathing space for shoppers in and around Longford town.

Town Clerk Dan Rooney said there was little however that the council could do as parking legislation and all that goes with it were “the law of the land”.
