Rugby club lead tributes to Pugsley family

Longford Rugby Club have led the tributes to the family of 15-year-old schoolgirl Ciara Pugsley, who died suddenly last Wednesday.

Ciara, who had just completed her Junior Cert this year, was found in a wooded area near her home on Wednesday night at Killargue, near Dromahair in Leitrim, after a small search party was organised by neighbours.

The teenager was a student at St Clare’s Comprehensive School in Manorhamilton.

Gardai confirmed this week that an investigation was continuing in relation to Ciara’s death. It had been speculated in recent days that Ciara’s death was as a result of cyber-bullying on social media sites.

Speaking at the funeral, family friend Eugene O’Neill, speaking on behalf of the family, called on authorities to do everything in their power to bring an end to the abuse that children are exposed to from their peers on social media.

Ciara’s father, Jonathan, is heavily involved with Longford Rugby Club, where he currently manages the U15s. Ciara’s brother, Daniel is also a rising star with the club and has been involved with the U19 side for the past couple of seasons.

A spokesperson for Longford Rugby Club offered their sincere condolences to the Pugsleys and paid tribute to the family in “this most difficult time.”
