Revenue lists Longford tax defaulters
Last week all the attention was on Wexford TD Mick Wallace after it was disclosed by Revenue in their quarterly tax defaulters’ report that his property company M.J Wallace Ltd had undeclared VAT and was liable to pay €2.1 million to the state.
While there were no large Wallace-like settlements for people with Longford addresses, there were 16 people or companies from within the county who came to settlements with the courts between January 1 and March 31 this year.
There were no Longford addresses in Part 11 of the Revenue’s list – tax settlements of a more serious matter exceeding €13,000 – but there were a number in Part 1. Most of these offences were for failure to lodge income or corporation tax returns as well as a number who were found guilty of various excise and licensing offences.
In total, settlements of €25,000 are due from the 16 Longford individuals or companies. Nationally in the three months from January 1 to March 31, settlements for a total of 129 cases were imposed to a total worth of €29.6 million. Of the 129 published cases, 62 were for amounts exceeding €100,000; of which 13 exceeded €500,000 and five exceeded €1,000,000.
