Progress on Granard NAMA project
Ambitious plans by a north Longford steering commitee to acquire 15 acres of land as well as two commercial units remain very much on course ahead of a major fundraising drive, it was announced this week.
Paul Flood, one up to “50 or 60” committee members behind the project, said organisers were now eyeing up money-making proposals in a bid to fund the project.
“We are launching a 500 club draw this week which should help things along,” he said.
Much of the finance generated from the draw is expected to go towards the preparation of a feasibility study, a venture which locals hope will underwrite their decision to proceed with the proposed purchase.
Situated on the Edgeworthstown road just outside Granard town, the 15 acre site together with adjoining buildings is one of hundreds of similarly sized projects currently on the books of NAMA.
Community leaders hope the site could pave the way for a future interpretative centre, thereby boosting the town’s tourism potential.
