Longford County Council is giving serious consideration to switching off street lighting after midnight. The Council has spent over €800,000 in lighting over the past three years, and is struggling to meet costs.

A Longford man convicted of assault and imprisonment has claimed there is “serious evidence” of jury misconduct in his trial.

Local band The Aftermath have two tracks included on the soundtrack to ‘The Hardy Bucks Movie’, which is on course to be the biggest Irish film of the year, with critics comparing it to Hollywood blockbuster, ‘The Hangover’.

In sport, Longford face Armagh on Saturday evening in Division 2 of the National Football League. Longford are in desperate need of points after losing their previous fixtures against Wexford and Westmeath.
