Oil and diesel warning issued

Locals have been warned to put measures in place now to protect diesel and home heating oil supplies as the winter approaches.

Speaking at a recent Joint Policing Committee meeting in Longford Town, Inspector Fran Nicholson said it was essential users of heating oil make it difficult for thieves.

“Oil and diesel are now very high value commodities. There was a big problem with instances of this last year and we are warning people to put measures in place now for this year,” he said.

Insp. Nicholson also warned business owners to be on the look-out for counterfeit notes in circulation. “There has been a noted increase in the number of counterfeit notes in the Midlands, particularly €50 notes. Business people in particular need to be alert to this risk,” he said.
