Colmcille GAA: Development The numbers drawn at the Lotto held on 20th August were 11,17, 19 and 29 with the jackpot of 5300 remaining intact.

MUSICIANS
Following their recent success at the Comhaltas Ceoltoiri All Ireland Fleadh in Cavan when they were winners of the U18 All Ireland busking championship the Dromard Ril Og Ceilidhe Band have been in the limelight once again. On Thursday last 26th August the band took part in the Failte Festival in Longford town where they won the street entertainers busking championship,sponsored by Messrs Glennon and received a cheque for 400 euro. The following is the list of the members of the band Marie Matthews, Legga; Laura Doherty and Liam Doherty, Cornakelly; Cillian Hourican, Berrinagh; Hannah McEntee, Drumhaldry and Emmet Lynch , Behamore. Great credit is due to their music teacher Pauric Lynch. Well done also to Laura Doherty, daughter of Rose and Tom, Cornakelly who was the winner of the U12 All Ireland mouth organ competition a the Cavan Fleadh. We Wish this talented group of young musicians continued success.
CEAD MILE FAILTE
To Rev Monsignor Michael Doyle from the Diocese of Camden, New Jersey who is spending his holidays at the old homestead in Rossduff on Friday evening last 27th August. Monsignor Doyle celebrated the annual Mass inst of the Creegan Clan whose roots are in the area around the Co Leitrim village. Also present for the celebration were members of the clan from Co Longford as well as from the USA.

PILGRIMAGE TO KNOCK
The annual Diocesan pilgrimage to Knock will be on Sunday next 5th September. Travel arrangements bus leaves Moyne Cross 10am, Legga 10.10am, Ballinamuck 10.30am, Drumlish 10.40am. Bus 2 leaves Colmcille 10.20am, Ballinalee 10.40am. Tickets cost 16 euro and can be had at the presbytery Longford or Moyne Cross Stores.
MONSIGNOT JOHN SHERIDAN INJURED IN CAR CRASH
On Wednesday afternoon 25th August a car driven by Douglas Kmiec (58) the US Ambassador to Malta went out of control when the vehicle veered to the left on Mullholland Drive in South California and went into a drainage ditch. Sister Mary Campbell (74) a retired teacher from Pepperdine University died at the scene while Monsignor John Sheridan (95), a native of Corrickmaquirk, Pastor Emeritus of Our lady of Malibu Church, Malibu and the ambassador were airlifted to the Ronald Regan UCLA Medical Centre. The latest news from the centre states that the Monsignor is critical but stable following surgery while the ambassador is expected to be released in a week to 10 days. The three were returning from a 60th anniversary celebration at Louisville high school, Woolands Hill on Wednesday afternoon. Monsignor Sheridan,a former pupil of the Old Latin School in Moyne was predeceased by his brothers Joe Sheridan TD, Rev Fr Farrell and Rev Fr Pat Sheridan of the Holy Ghost Fathers, Kimmage Manor Dublin and his sister Sr A Quinn as Sheridan, Youghal Co Cork. His brother Thomas Sheridan lives at Firmount a few miles from Edgeworthstown and his sister Mrs Kathleen Galligan is in Dublin. Sister Mary Campbell a native of Kiltymagh, Co Mayo is known in this area as she was a guest of the Martin family in Aughamore lower in 2005. Pepperdine University president Andrew K Benton wrote in a statement - "Our prayers go out to the family of sister Mary Campbell and to the entire Our Lady of Malibu community. Sister Mary taught many sons and daughters of Pepperdine staff over the years and was much loved. This tragedy has touched the Pepperdine community deeply. We continue to pray for the full recovery of Pastor Emeritus , Monsignor John Sheridan and Professor Kmiec".
DROMARD WIN AGAIN
Following their 1-12 to 0-9 defeat of Abbeylara on Sunday Dromard are through to the senior football final. They will meet the winners of the Mostrim V Longford Slashers match which is timed for 6.30pm in Pearse Park on Sunday next.
UCL Harps
Soccer Club
UCL Harps will start their New Season Soccer Training in the 2.nd week of September. Enrollment will be done at the beginning of the 1. Training session. Times and venue will be announced in next weeks local papers and in the schools. UCL Harps are inviting all Schoolchildren from 6 to 16 from the North Longford Area to join them for a year of Soccer Training, Fitness and Fun.
