Here are the news headlines for Wednesday, 11 July.
In this week’s Leader, we report that Longford GAA’s plans to construct their centre of excellence at Lyneen in Kilashee received a further setback when an inspector from An Bord Pleanala said he was “not convinced” the plan would not lead to increased risk of flooding in the area.
Longford town does not exist according to Google Maps. The town is relegated to the status of a minor townland while the Prospect Wood estate on the edge of the town enjoys extraordinary prominence highlighted in a similar fashion to the town such as Mullingar and Cavan town,
In sport, we look ahead to Longford’s Second Round Qualifier clash with Limerick which is scheduled for Saturday at 2pm in Glennon Brothers Pearse Park and we also examine Longford Town’s underwhelming 0-0 draw at home to Athlone Town on Friday last. We also bring news of the Town’s upcoming friendlies against Milwall on 18 July and Manchester United on 23 July.
