New CIA director has strong Roscommon links

The son of a Co Roscommon couple looks set to become the new director of the USA’s Central Intelligence Agency. John Brennan was nominated by President Barack Obama on Monday to take over the post after David Patraeus resigned last November.

Brennan, who has served with the CIA for 25 years, has previously served as the CIA’s station chief in Saudi Arabia and as deputy executive director during George W Bush’s administration. There were some protests following Mr Brenna’s appointment over his links to the previous government which supported harsh interrogation techniques.
