N5 fatal accident
junction concern

In the wake of a fatal accident on the N5 at Mullologher, a local councillor from the area said the National Roads Authority should look at issues surrounding cars turning on straight stretches of roads.

Cllr Denis Glennon described it as “an old problem” where cars making a right turn off a straight stretch are in danger of being in a collision with a car that is travelling behind and attempts to overtake.

“I think that’s about the fifth crash there and I think that something needs to be done,” said Cllr Glennon. “The National Roads Authority will have to look at these straight stretches with right turns on them. It’s an ongoing problem.”

Cllr Peggy Nolan suggested it should be raised at the council’s upcoming meeting with the NRA.
