Mullahoran local news Sept 3

In The Semi-final: The Senior team qualified for the semi-final of the Championship on Sunday evening last when they defeated Castlerahan on a score of 0-10 to 0-5.

Having witnessed two excellent All-Ireland semi-final games on television in the afternoon, this was a lacklustre match in comparison with poor marking and missed opportunities on both sides. Despite this, there were some excellent bouts of play especially from Man of the Match, minor Enda Reilly who scored a total of six points. In the meantime it's back to the drawing board to be ready for the county Champions Cavan Gaels in the semi-final when it will be all systems go. Hard luck to neighbours Lacken and Gowna who were defeated on Saturday evening.

Sean Maguire

There was much regret locally on the untimely death of Sean Maguire, Crosskeys and late of Callanagh, Kilcogy recently. In fact Sean, who was a first cousin of the late world renowned fiddler Sean Maguire, was also a musician of note in his own right died only the week before the Fleadh in Cavan and had been very involved in the Crosskeys Branch of Cheolthas and was deeply involved in preparation for the festival. Sean left this area some 17 years ago when he moved to live in Crosskeys with his uncle and aunt Alice & Tom Galligan and always kept in touch with his native parish. He was of a friendly and outgoing nature and was extremely popular with all who knew him. The funeral which was large and representative took place from St. Matthew's Church, Crosskeys on Thursday 18th and crowds were gathering in town for the fleadh, and burial took place in adjoining cemetery. We extend our deepest sympathy to his sisters Kathleen in Belfast and Rose in England, nieces and nephews and members of his extended family circle.
