Mullahoran local news Sept 10

MISS CAVAN: Well done to Louise Sheridan who was third in the Miss Cavan competition which was held in the Carrig Springs on Friday night.

Louise, the oldest daughter of Gerry and Monica Sheridan, was first on stage on the night but showed no sign of nerves when chatting to MCs Harry Lynch and David Molloy. Well done Louise and congrats to Sarah Heaslip who won the overall title.

THE LATE ANNE BOYLAN

There was much regret locally on the occasion of the death of Ann Boylan, Drumhowra on Thursday last. Deceased who was aged 67 had been in poor health recently and passed away peacefully at her residence in the presence of her devoted family. A native of Ardee, nee Gaynor, deceased came to reside in Drumhowra along with her husband Seamus in 1996 where both got deeply involved in the local community. A highly intelligent and atriculate person Ann possessed great foresight and was a past President of the Mullahoran St. John's Conference of St. Vincent De Paul, having previously been President of the Clontarf branch in Dublin. She was also a champion Irish dancer and later become a teacher of high repute. On a poignant note Seamus and Ann were due to celebrate their 40th wedding anniversary in 2 weeks time. The remains were received in St. Joseph's Church, Loughduff on Friday evening by Canon Owen Devaney and funeral took place following requiem Mass on Saturday morning. The chief celebrant was Fr. Kevin Fay assisted by Fr. Peter Casey, Ballinagh. We extend our sincere sympathy to her loving husband Seamus, son Colin and granddaughter Ciara, daughter-in-law Melanie and members of her extended family circle.

ELLEN BRIODY RIP

There was much regret locally on the occasion of the death of Ellen (Nellie) Briody, Drumbrucklis, Carrigan, which occurred peacefully at her residence on Thurdsay last. Aged 85 deceased had been in good health until a few months ago but nevertheless her passing will come as a great shock to her devoted family, neighbours and many friends I n the local community. Formerly Ellen Reilly from the Derries, Loughduff she was predeceased by her husband Denis (Dinny) many years ago. She was a deeply religious and friendly and inoffensive lady who was held in high esteem by all who knew her. She was a regular player at the local Whist Drives and in years gone by her home was a noted card-playing house.

We extend our sincere sympathy to her sons Seamus and Sean, daughters Mary Ellen, Anne, Patricia, Betty and Brid, grandchildren and members of extended family circle, neighbours and many friends. May she rest in peace.

DIED IN US

We regret to announce the death of Mary Joe Donlon which occurred in Yonkers, New York recently. Mary Joe was formerly Reilly from Drumhowra and was aged 74. She emigrated when she was 17 but never forgot her native Loughduff and was a regular visitor to her brother Oliver with her family down through the years. She is survived by her husband Chris, sons and daughters and grandchildren, brothers Oliver, Paddy and Brendan and sisters Annie and Winnie and a large family circle to whom we extend our deepest sympathy. The funeral took place in New York. May she rest in peace.
