Men arrested in connection with Heatons raid
Two men have been arrested under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act in relation to an armed robbery in a department store in Longford town last year.
Last November a man wearing a black balaclava and brandishing a handgun stole €25,000 from the Heaton's store on Ballymahon Street in Longford.
During the raid the man seized a security guard working in the store and tied his hands behind him with rope.
It is believed the man had been concealed within the building as staff prepared to close the shop for the evening.
The robber fled the scene via the rear door of Heatons leading onto Weaver's Hall. The security guard although unharmed was later treated for shock.
At the time the Gardai reviewed several CCTV tapes of the incident.
Today the Longford Gardai arrested two men in relation to the incident.
Inspector Joe McLoughlin of Longford Garda Station told the Leader that: "They are from the locality. One of the men is being held in Roscommon Garda Station and the other man is being held in Longford Garda Station."
He also said that both of the men can be held for up to 24 hours without charge.
