A former property developer who was discovered walking on a secondary road close to Swanlinbar on the Leitrim/Cavan border is expected to be interviewed by Gardai this week in relation to his ordeal.

Kevin Michael McGeever who is a native of County Mayo, was reported missing from his home in Craughwell, located between Gort and Athenry in County Galway in late May of last year. He was discovered by a couple from the Ballinamore area in a dishevelled state after being dropped off by a van shortly before 10pm on the night of Tuesday, January 29.

The 68-year-old was discovered wearing just a pair of socks and a plastic bag which covered his clothes. He was without money but did have a torch and a mobile phone in his possession with just one number in its phonebook. When contacted, the person whose number was found on the phone showed little interest in coming to the McGeever’s aid.

McGeever is reported to have had the word ‘thief’ carved into his forehead by his captors. He was brought to Ballinamore Garda Station before being sent to Mullingar General Hospital where he was treated for malnourishment and dehydration.

Mr McGeever, who runs KMM International Properties, a company involved in the Dubai property scene since the early 2000s, could not recall where he had been for the past eight months but did acknowledge that he was kept against his will.

McGeever had previously set up an office on Mullingar’s Ashe Road and is also understood to have conducted property deals at the nearby Mullingar Park Hotel. He was considered one of the poster boys of the Celtic Tiger and owned a EC120 helicopter in which he travelled the lenght and breadth of the country in along with a fleet of sports cars including a Mercedes-Benz SL55 AMG, a Porshce 911 and two H2 Hummers.
