Longford rugby fans left cold in Paris

A Longford group of Irish rugby fans were left with a bitter taste in their mouths after the Ireland France Six Nations game was postponed – ten minutes after it was due to begin, writes Conor Barrins.
“We were in the stadium in Paris waiting for the players to come out when we started getting all these texts from people back in Ireland saying the match was cancelled,” Tom O’Haire told the Leader after arriving back on Monday.
The referee at the Stade de France decided to call off the game after concerns about safety due to parts of the pitch being frozen. “We were all absolutely gutted when it happened. If they had announced it earlier in the day it wouldn’t have been as bad, but we travelled all the way across the city to get to the stadium,” Tom, who hails from Dromard, said.
All tickets will be valid for the re-fixture, but Tom doesn’t think the group will be able to go back. “We flew to Heathrow, then got the Eurostar [train] down to Paris. With transport, accommodation, the match ticket and then food and drink on top of everything the trip cost about €800 so it’s not something you can do every week,” Tom said.
