Longford man in court over murder of Dundee woman

A Co Longford man has appeared in a Scottish court charged in relation to the murder of a mother of three.

Patrick Rae, who is aged 40, was first questioned by the Tayside Police last week and was formally arrested and charged last Monday afternoon.

The former Longford resident appeared on two charges relating to the murder of Mary McLaren at Dundee Sheriff Court yesterday, Tuesday.

Patrick Rae, with an address in Arbroath, Scotland appeared from custody charged with murder and with attempting to defeat the ends of justice.

A spokesperson from the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service in Scotland told the Leader that: "He made no plea nor declaration. He was committed for further examination, made no application for bail and was remanded in custody." Mr Rae will appear in court again in one week's time.

Mr Rae is charged with the murder of Ms Mary McLaren, (34), who went missing in the early hours of Thursday, February 27 after leaving Fat Sam's nightclub in Dundee. Her body was found last Wednesday in undergrowth beside the Ladywell Roundabout on Dundee's North Marketgait.

Ms McLaren, of Rowantree Crescent, Dundee, had last been seen in Marketgait with a man she met at the club.

Detectives investigating the case released images of Ms McLaren dancing with an unidentified man on the night she disappeared.

Mr Rae was charged with the murder of Ms McLaren yesterday and is due to appear back in court next week.
