Longford Rose prepares for Regional Finals

Newly crowned Longford Rose Sarah Keogh is preparing to represent her county in Portlaoise in the Regional Finals of the Rose of Tralee from June 3 to 6 next.

The Killoe lady has had a busy few weeks since she donned the Longford Rose sash having attended the Longford Dublin Association Dinner Dance as a guest of honour in Moran's Red Cow Hotel, taken part in the Ballinalee and Flancare festivals and also helped out at the recent Ploughing Championships.

"It's been an amazing few weeks. Everyone has been very supportive of me – I've gotten lots of cards and well wishes and local people have made me feel like a VIP. Hopefully now I can do my best for everybody in Portlaoise," she said.

Sarah previously wowed the Longford Rose judges with a heartfelt poem she wrote about the devastating fire that engulfed St Mel's Cathedral on Christmas Day and she intends to recite this poem at the upcoming Regional Finals.

"I feel comfortable with this poem since I wrote it myself and I've received a lot of compliments on it, so that helps," she explained.

The daughter of John and Deirdre Keogh also has a very healthy attitude towards the Rose of Tralee competition. "To be honest I haven't thought too much about Tralee yet. I just want to enjoy the moment in Portlaoise and we'll see how things go there," she said.

Sarah is going to be ahead of the pack in the style stakes in Portlaoise as she is having a gown specially made for her by Mohill based designer Eileen Abbott and Wendy Louise Knight has also sponsored her several head pieces for the weekend.
