Lanesboro man dies in workplace accident

A local man in his late 50s has died in an accident at the ESB Lough Ree Power Station in Lanesboro. The incident has deeply shocked the Lanesboro community where the man lived and worked. The man died after he became trapped in machinery at the power station around 1am this morning (Wednesday). The man was an employee of Bord na Mona at the plant and it is thought he became trapped in machinery belts. It was confirmed this morning that both the Gardai and the Health and Safety Authority are investigating the accident.

Two investigations are under way into the circumstances surrounding the death of a man at the ESB Lough Ree power station in Co Longford. More details to follow on www.longfordleader.ie throughout the day.
