They may have had to wait the best part of two decades and go through 80 minutes of a pulsating Co Final replay last Sunday, but for Killoe and those decked out in green and white last Sunday, it was an endurance test that couldn’t have been more worthwhile.

Played with all of the panache and gusto typically associated with a Connolly Cup decider, it took extra time to eventually separate Killoe from defending champions Longford Slashers at Glennon Brothers Pearse Park and seal Tommy McCormack’s side’s date with destiny.

Perhaps not surprisingly, star attacker Sean McCormack proved the decisive factor as the county forward kicked nine of his side’s 15 points, prompting jubilant scenes at the end.

Many of those same set of supporters will no doubt be keeping their fingers crossed as Killoe open their Leinster Club Championship at home to St Anne’s of Wexford.
