Journalist seeks Euro seat

Independent candidate Noel McCullagh is also seeking nomination in the North West constituency and he believes he is the best candidate for the job as he already has an extensive working knowledge of the European Parliament.

As a journalist, translator and interpreter already working for the Dutch media in Brussels, Mr. McCullagh is familiar with the inner workings of the Parliament and what can be expected of elected members.

Originally from Ballinasloe, Co. Galway, Mr. McCullagh has an extensive and detailed manifesto of what he would like to achieve if elected to represent the North West in Parliament. His list includes detailed problems with practical and viable solutions for each issue.

His manifesto includes; drainage and water management, local healthcare, technology and media, as well as hopes and aspirations for the North West in the future.

"I would like to inform voters in the North-West that I cannot promise the world, or manage a spectacular, flamboyant take-over of politics throughout the Union," he makes clear on his website, "but if there is one thing I am sure I can deliver upon, it is a sound platform for bi-lateral exchange between the Lowlands and the North-West."

As a Multiple Sclerosis (MS) sufferer, Mr. McCullagh also plans to lobby the Irish Government to implement a European Law, already ratified by numerous EU countries and signed by the Irish Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform Mr. John O'Donoghue, which will allow him to bring his prescription medicine cannabis into the country.

He also has plans to use any excess benefits he receives as MEP in his North West constituency. "The most I have earned in my professional career as a journalist is €30,000. I see no reason why this personal income should be increased dramatically and intend to use anything above that to fund initiatives mentioned here," he claims.
