Jobs Club course breaks new ground

The EDI Centre in Longford broke new ground in Longford when it hosted the first bilingual Jobs Club training course which offered 15 hours of English language training. The "English at the Workplace" course saw participants brush up their English language skills by familiarising themselves with workplace, health and safety, employment and social welfare related vocabulary and terminology.

"The course was a great success due to a number of facts," Anneta Cytacka-Safiak of the EDI Centre explained. "It was run in a bilingual way and therefore the language level of theparticipants was of lesser significance and any person could take the course as there was no placement test."

She added that the material presented to participants could easily be used in everyday communication which made it easier for students to pick up and use.

Apart from the linguistic input, the participants discussed ways of CV preparation, personal skills and took part in mock interviews, which allowed them to test their own knowledge and get acquainted with the recruitment process and the atmosphere of an interview setting.
