ISPCA discover distressing case of animal cruelty
The Irish Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ISPCA) discovered a very distressing case of cruelty to animals involving three maltreated pitbull terriers recently.
ISPCA Inspector Brendan Hughes rescued the dogs found in horrific condition from a property in Carlow. Two of the dogs were female with obvious signs that they had been over bred.
Inspector Hughes said "It is important to highlight the cruelty to animals that is taking place in this country. Time and time again the ISPCA have to pick up the pieces after animals are being neglected and subjected to cruel treatment. It is time the general population knew that animals are being treated like rubbish.
"The neglect and cruelty shown towards these animals was horrendous and the increased numbers of abandoned and neglected animals is becoming a seriously worrying trend".
The ISPCA is appealing to the public to be responsible pet owners and to also be vigilant and report any cruelty or neglect to the ISPCA National Animal Cruelty Helpline 1890 515 515. All reports of cruelty to animals are treated in the strictest of confidence.
The animals are now being cared for at the ISPCA National Animal Centre in Kenagh. This purpose built animal rehabilitation centre was opened in 2002 and is home to some of Ireland's most cruelly treated, neglected and abused animals.
The ISPCA National Animal Centre is open to visitors 7 days a week between 11:30am and 4 pm. For further information about the ISPCA, please visit www.ispca.ie.
