Glennon Brothers timber used in Electric Picnic art installation
The 'Meitheal - ethic' installation at Electric Picnic.
Thousands of music lovers flocked to Stradbally in Co Laois last weekend for the annual Electric Picnic festival, and this year Longford firm Glennon Brothers played an integral role in the creation of one of the centrepieces.
The installation, called ‘Meitheal – ethic’, was described as an archetypal space, drawing on tradition and technology, to create a place for people to meet, talk, reflect and socialise. Woodcollective, in association with the Wood Marketing Federation, designed the structure using specially sourced home-grown timber produced by Glennon Brothers.
It’s the second time the Longford-based company has supplied timber for the Woodcollective display at the Electric Picnic, the previous being last year’s ‘Forest of Light’. It proved to be a success, with project designer Eugene Boyle saying, “we were inundated last year, day and night, with people wishing to know more about wood and how the exhibition was planned and executed.”
Glennon Brothers also recently supplied Irish-grown timber to the Venice Biennale 13th Annual Architecture Exhibition, a prestigious showcase featuring innovative and futuristic projects.
