Gardai continue searches following early morning arrests

Gardai are continuing to conduct searches in the north Longford area this afternoon (Wednesday) after three men were arrested in relation to ongoing investigations surrounding the discovery of pipe bombs in Edgeworthstown earlier this year.

Two of the men are currently being detained at Longford Garda Station while the third man is currently awaiting questioning at Roscommon Garda Station.

All three have been arrested under Section 30 of the Offences Against The State Act, meaning they can be interviewed for up to three days.

It's understood one of the men arrested is in his early 50s and is from the Edgeworthstown area.

Another man was arrested during an early morning raid at a halting site in Dublin, while details of the third individual has yet to be released.

News of the arrests marks somewhat of a significant breakthrough by detectives from Granard and Roscommon following the discovery of two suspected pipe bombs outside a house at Lisfarrell, Edgeworthstown, Co Longford in February and most recently in April.
