Gardaí appeal over break-ins

While gardaí across the county have reported a quiet weekend, members of the force in Longford town are appealing to the public to assist them with their enquiries after a number of burglaries over the past week.

A break-in at a public house in Ballymahon on March 12 last resulted in criminal damage and the theft of a quantity of alcohol. “A back door was forced open and the culprits gained entry to the premises,” a garda spokesperson added. “A JukeBox and Poker machine were damaged during the incident and a quantity of whiskey taken.”

Meanwhile, a Toshiba laptop was stolen during a break-in at a private residence in Moydow between 1:05pm and 3.10pm on March 14 last. A rear window was smashed during the incident and access to the property subsequently gained. An Olympus Camera, silver tray and Nintendo DS were taken in a separate incident in Abbeyshrule last Thursday, March 14. “Between 2:10pm and 5:15pm there was a break-in at a private house in the area,” said the garda spokesperson. “We would be appealing to members of the public who noticed anything suspicious in these areas to come forward and assist gardaí with their enquiries.”
