Waiting for Video...

A large crowd gathered at St. Mary’s Church, Newtownforbes, to pay their final respects to the enormously popular John Frank Reilly who died last Tuesday.

The ceremony, which was streamed live so as to enable John Frank’s relatives in America witness the day, highlighted his role as the driving force in the annual Lourdes pilgrammage, his thriving insurance business which he founded in the 1950s, his massive interest in Gealic football, his storytelling ability and his genial, friendly nature.

His friend, the former Longford and Slashers manager John Murphy, in a touching and very personal speech delivered at the close of the ceremony, spoke of the dilemma John Frank found himself in ahead of the 2008 county final between Colmcille and Slashers, and recalled the final meeting he had with John Frank only last Monday. John Frank leaves behind his sons Joe and Sean, his daughters Anne and Mary, his in-laws, grandchildren as well as many relatives and friends.
