Feeling the heat Down Under

Australia is currently enduring one of its hottest summers on record, with temperatures peaking at just under 50 degrees Celsius – so hot that forecasters have made the unprecedented decision of adding new colours to temperature charts.

For many Longford people living in Australia, they are experiencing heat unlike anything even the warmest Irish summers can offer.

“It’s the hottest I have experienced in 45 years. I’m glad we have a swimming pool!” said Seamus Tannian, who now lives on the aptly-named Sunshine Coast in Queensland.

Eamonn Quinn, who is living on Barrow Island off the coast of Western Australia, quipped that “It’s 45 degrees with 80% humidity, almost as hot as the Grattans dressing rooms in Stonepark!”, while Gerry Keogh from Legan added that it’s “46-47 degrees here in Kalgoorlie this week – good hay weather!”

As yet, no injuries or damage to property has been reported from the Longford community residing there.
